FC Barcelona's Next Boss Revealed?
FC Barcelona have been linked with many managers since Luis Enrique announced he will leave at the end of the season. Has their new boss now been revealed? Will Lionel Messi have a say in who comes in?
Award-winning author Guillem Balague recently spoke to Soccer Laduma about what could be next for Barca after Enrique announced that this will be his last season at the club.
Balague believes Ernesto Valverde is Barca's main managerial target – a tactician who has reportedly been approached twice before by the Spanish giants.
"(Athletic Bilbao manager) Ernesto Valverde is the current favourite for the job. (Sevilla manager) Jorge Sampaoli is in the list, of course, but Valverde ticks all the boxes," he told Soccer Laduma.
"He is a former player of the club and he was playing under Johan Cruyff who created the new Barcelona philosophy. He has been a coach and has done really well. Also, he deals really well with the entourage, the media and with players.
"People like him. He's got a great personality, but he’s strong as well. A lot of big decisions will have to be made. Andres Iniesta is 32 years-old, Sergio Busquets is 30, Gerard Pique is 30 and Messi is approaching 30. A lot of decisions will have to be made and he’s got a strong personality for that."
Balague also insisted that Messi will have no say on who the club eventually appoints for the hot seat.
"Messi has zero influence on the board's decisions. Do they tell him what's going on? Of course they do, but he's got zero influence and he doesn't want any influence (on the board) whatsoever," he added.
"He didn't have a say on Tata Martino and he doesn't want a say on this one (who the next manager of the club will be)."
