The Argentine netted the winner against Atletico Madrid to take his tally to 20 La Liga goals for the season.

He is only two behind Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette, but has a six-goal gap to leader Edinson Cavani.

Robert Lewandowski, who netted a hat trick against Hamburg, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who scored a brace on the weekend, complete the top five marksmen in Europe right now.

While it was a rather quiet weekend for the bottom side of the ranking, Ronaldo scored his 16th league goal of the season and is now only one goal shy of equaling the likes of Alexis Sanches and Andrea Belotti.

Here are the top 10 goalscorers in Europe's top five leagues:

1) Edinson Cavani (PSG) – 26 goals [+1 goal]

2) Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon) – 22 goals [+1 goal]

3) Lionel Messi (Barca) – 20 goals [+1 goal]

4) Robert Lewandowski (Bayern) – 19 goals [+3 goals]

5) Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (BVB) – 19 goals [+2 goals]

6) Edin Dzeko (Roma) – 19 goals

7) Gonzalo Higuain (Juventus) – 19 goals

8) Luis Suarez (Barca) – 18 goals

9) Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal) – 17 goals

10) Andrea Belotti (Torino) – 17 goals
