Parker Eyes Silverware, Chiefs’ Spirit ‘Out Of This World’

Bernard Parker Says Kaizer Chiefs Are Mentally Strong Right Now

By Joe Crann - Apr 22, 2017 12:03 PM @YesWeCrann
Bernard Parker says that the team spirit at Kaizer Chiefs is currently ‘out of this world’ as they prepare for a season-defining Nedbank Cup quarterfinal.

The Amakhosi are still in with a chance of winning two pieces of silverware this season as they remain among the chasing pack for the Absa Premiership and in the last eight of the Nedbank Cup. However, the competition is their most likely chance of a medal.

Having found themselves in the midst of a 14-game unbeaten run in all competitions, their top scorer believes that they’re all in a very good space at present and that they’re confident going forward.

Speaking at a press conference he said, “We are in a good state… Mentally we are even stronger.  The mood in camp is at an unbelievable level. If you watched our training, you would have seen what I’m talking about. We are sharing positive thoughts. We are talking about the Champions League and things outside football. It’s amazing and out of this world. We are inspiring each other in camp and our camaraderie is on a high.”

And what about their ambitions for the season with two trophies to play for? Parker said, “We held a discussion as a team before the start of the second round of the league fixtures. We set goals for ourselves. This is a must-win situation for us, for both the league and cup. The coach has said it and we have to take each game at a time.”

Finally, with regard to last season’s trophyless campaign, ‘Die Hond’ remained optimistic, saying, “We have learnt from the situation and we are wiser now going forward. With faith and belief, we will lift a trophy this season.”

Parker has one Nedbank Cup medal already, with the 31-year-old scoring the winner, against Matsatsantsa in the 2012/13 edition of the tournament.

@The-Rose-of-Pretoria#kby, Parker is free agents' spokesperson. He has been tasked to raise the hopes of fau faithfools, this task was performed by Nyawana last season, a difficult assignment taking into account they will be empty handed this season.
