Baxter On SSU’s Ex-Chiefs Players: “It’s Irrelevant”

Stuart Baxter Has Spoken About The Former Kaizer Chiefs Players At SuperSport United

By Soccer Laduma - Apr 21, 2017 03:13 PM
Stuart Baxter says that the fact that SuperSport United have a number of former Kaizer Chiefs players in their side is irrelevant ahead of this weekend’s clash.

Baxter will return to his former club this weekend, with whom he previously won the Nedbank Cup, to meet them in the quarterfinals of the competition. Matsatsantsa is looking to retain the trophy that they won at the end of last season.

SuperSport currently have nine former Amakhosi players in their ranks at present, seven of whom played at Naturena under the Englishman during his time there, but Baxter doesn’t think that those players have anything to prove against their old club.

Speaking to the media this week, the 63-year-old said, "The fact that we got some former Chiefs players playing for SuperSport for me is totally irrelevant. They’re not playing for Kaizer Chiefs because they left Kaizer Chiefs, and then in their future, they actually signed for SuperSport because they have a coach at SuperSport that knows them from their time at Kaizer Chiefs.

“There can be millions and millions of different stories, but that’s part of the game. You guys (the media) would be so displeased with me if the things that came out of our shop was boring, boring, boring. You guys live on things like this. Supporters sit in bars drinking a beer saying, ‘Ahh, you know that coach, he’s probably poached five players from Naturena and was sending them secret messages’, but that’s football.

“They are professionals. When we play Chiefs or Orlando Pirates, they should have equally as much to prove. The truth is they have nothing to prove. They were good Kaizer Chiefs players, I don't think most of them left under a cloud. They left because, like every other South African player, they wanted to move on with their career.”

Baxter arrived at SuperSport with Kingston Nkhatha (who is injured for this weekend’s game), Thuso Phala and Onismor Bhasera, already at the club, while only Reyaad Pieterse, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Keegan Ritchie were signed directly from Naturena.

Tefu Mashamaite and Mandla Masango joined the club from Sweden and Denmark respectively, while Morgan Gould was released from Chiefs at the end of last season.

Yes , it is a fact they are playing for you Mr Baxter and they did not leave under a cloud Mr. Baxter, but how did they leave Chiefs ? I think they left Chiefs because you promised them heaven and earth . Some of the players were supposed to sign contract extension with Chiefs but refused at a later stage because you convinced them not to sign.
