Mamelodi Sundowns Loanee Set To Part Ways With CAF Champions?
Mamelodi Sundowns’ defender, Abel Mabaso, who is on loan at Ajax Cape Town could be set to permanently part ways with the CAF Champions League winners.
Mabaso joined up with the Urban Warriors on loan in August 2015, where he played an instrumental role in the team under former head coach Roger de Sa.
However, since the arrival of Dutchman Stanley Menzo at the helm, the 25-year-old has not seen much first-team game time.
The signing of Sundowns’ Rheece Evans on loan and Erwin Isaacs being utilised in the right-back position is also part of the reason for the player’s lack of games at Ajax.
Mabaso’s existing contract with his parent club, Masandawana, is set to expire on June 30 and indications are that the player could be set for a permanent move away from Chloorkop.
Ajax are yet to indicate whether or not they want to hold on to the player on a permanent basis, however, as reported in issue number 1013 of Soccer Laduma, the player’s representatives, Mede8 Sports, confirmed to the Siya crew that Mabaso is currently looking to take the next step of his professional footballing career.
“He (Mabaso) is a great professional. However, he is eager for first team game-time. We are currently assessing his options at this moment and will look to make a decision which will benefit the player’s footballing career,” Mede8 confirmed to Soccer Laduma at the time.
Mabaso came on as 78th minute substitution during Ajax’s loss to KwaDukuza FC in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday, March 12, and it remains to be seen whether he will be in the team when they host Free State Stars at the Athlone Stadium on Friday, March 17.
