Comitis: We Were Fortunate That We Had Good Draws

John Comitis And Cape Town City Under No Illusions

By Soccer Laduma - Dec 10, 2016 02:55 PM

Cape Town City owner, John Comitis, has said that his team are not getting ahead of themselves and admitted that they’re road to today’s Telkom Knockout final was made easier through favourable draws.

No Clause In City Star's Contract, Clear For TKO

The newly established team are in a good position in the league, sitting at the top of the Absa Premiership standings, and now stand a chance to claim their first ever piece of silverware against SuperSport United. However, Comitis has said that the team is under no illusions and will endeavor to stabilise before creating any major expectations, considering that the club beat Bloemfontein Celtic, Baroka and Free State Stars en route to the final.

"I think it would be premature to make any assumptions at this stage. We’ve had a very good run and that’s predominantly because we’ve played as a team,” he told Soccer Laduma. “A win today just means that we beat SuperSport and I can’t declare it as more than that. We didn’t have any of the big clubs to play along the way and we were fortunate that we had good draws. But I wouldn’t put us down, because the draw is the draw and we didn’t play any of the big guns, but, at the end of the day, we beat those clubs anyways in the league.

“But that’s not our target. Our target is to stabilise and we’ve gone beyond that. So now that we’ve gone past it, we’ll move onto our next target. We just need to make sure that we get into that ‘hunting pack’.”

Cape Town City & South African Football’s Hottest Duo

Comitis went on to say that the club’s non-existent historical precedent means that there’s nothing to fall back on, but that it’s important for the team not to put any unnecessary pressure on itself.

“You have to be humble, because you don’t have enough of a foundation,” he added. “We have to take it day to day, because we can’t look back historically. We can’t base our performances on anything but the game at hand. And that’s what brings us success, it’s that we don’t put any pressure on ourselves.”

Should Tinkler win this one, Chiefs and Bucs must bury their heads in shame, for being surpassed by a less than year old team.

Don't worry Comities because today you are meeting a small team, not one of the big guns so you will do the same as you did to other small teams.
