Banks: Chiefs Should Sign Ngoma & Tyson
Chiefs legend comments on transfer aspirations
Kaizer Chiefs legend, Banks Setlhodi, has said that he would like to see his former team sign Aubrey Ngoma and Thulani Hlatshwayo.
The 70-year-old discussed Amakhosi’s potential transfer business between now and the close of the transfer window and said that, although a high-profile striker seems to be a necessity, the club first needs to make sure that they have a player that can create goals and take the burden off of their talismanic midfielder, Siphiwe Tshabalala’s shoulders. He then explained why he thinks Aubrey Ngoma would be an ideal candidate, despite the knee injury from which he’s currently recovering.
“I thought Chiefs would go out and look for a high-profile striker, but sometimes you can’t get a high-profile striker that can fit the team. You might get a high-profile striker, but where will he get those balls from? At Chiefs, they need a high-profile striker and somebody that can play with penetration,” he told Soccer Laduma.
“They need to get the ball into the box and there’s only one player doing that - Tshabalala. They need someone for that position just behind the strikers, the number 10. Age is catching up with Shabba and there’s no way he can keep going for many more years.
“In the league, Aubrey Ngoma was playing so well for Cape Town City. That young boy plays incredible football! He’s an unpolished diamond. Yes, he’s injured, but we can buy him injured because Tshabalala was injured when we signed him.”
The former goalkeeper went on to say that he would like to see the Glamour Boys sign Bidvest Wits captain, Thulani Hlatshwayo, who he believes would be a direct replacement for Erick Mathoho
"And I was also thinking that Kaizer (Motaung) will talk to Wits about that boy, “Tyson” (Hlatshwayo). Apparently, Pirates want to sign him, but, as we speak, Kaizer Chiefs need a strong defender. Mathoho can be good in the air, but he isn’t always because I think he loses concentration sometimes. On the ground I don’t like him, so we could get a guy like Tyson, who is good in the air and good with his feet as well. Chiefs need a true central defender. I also believe that Chiefs have the capital to get what they want."
