Kaizer Chiefs' youth development programme is currently a work in progress, but there seems to be great signs of things to come for the future. The likes of Jabu Mahlangu, Itumeleng Khune, Nhlanhla Kubheka, Thabo Mooki and Gerald Sibeko, just to name a few, all graduated from the club's youth ranks.
Today, players such as Emmanuel Letlotlo, Hendrick Ekstein, Lorenzo Gordinho, Lucky Baloyi, Siyabonga Ngezana and, most recently, Wiseman Meyiwa have been brought in from the development structures and are proving to be assets to the first team.
One supporter expressed his views and mentioned that Chiefs could benefit from developing their own stars.
"The reported promotion of SA U20 prodigy, Meyiwa, augurs well for other youngsters such as Yusuf Bantam, Itumeleng Shopane and the sensational Nhlakanipho Ngcobo, who is tipped to be the next Doctor Khumalo. The last time a Chiefs team consisted of development stars such as Jabu Pule (Mahlangu) and Brian Baloyi, it went all the way to conquer Africa and won everything domestically in the famous 'operation-vat-alles'.
"Amakhosi fans will be happy that the conveyor belt is producing on a regular basis and soon the team won't have to worry about ridiculous transfer market prices on players." – mzwazwazwa
What are your thoughts on the players who have recently come out of Amakhosi's development structures?
