Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs No. 1 goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune suffered an injury in his club's game against Chippa United on Sunday. Khune, who was included in the latest Bafana Bafana squad for the upcoming crucial World cup qualifiers against Senegal, might not take part in those games now.
"Injury Update: Captain Itu has a fracture to a bone in his face. He will see a specialist regarding this and we will update you after," Chiefs confirmed via their official Twitter account.
Fans are up in arms because they feel that with Khune out, SA have very little chance of beating Senegal:
"Kurt Lentjies was given a fat brown envelope to do the job of injuring Itu_Khune, so that the Senegalese could progress through. #LentjiesYouSoldUsOut." – Gumbaya CTCFC
"Wishing Itu Khune a speedy recovery. As for Lentjies, all I can say is, take your time!" – Diski-nine-nine!
"If we do not qualify for Russia, Kurt must be banned in football." – Calbridge
"Honestly speaking, I'm a Khosi fan but if I was the Bafana coach, I would select Mabokgwane even if he's not playing at Pirates. He is the closest keeper to Khune. It's a pity at Pirates they don't see this. You can't blame him for conceding the number of goals he conceded last season. Pirates had a leaky defence. Even if Khune or Onyango were at Pirates last season, the same was going to happen. But I'm not the coach." – Mr Tools
"Thanks to Lentjies, we're no longer going to Russia." – firstname.lastname@example.org
"Kurt Lentjies, what professional conduct is this? That was a reckless challenge that will cost the whole country qualification for Russia next year." – Mvuyisi?
"If Bafana lose, Lentjies will have to answer." – siyas23
Do you think Khune's injury might cost us a place in the 2018 World cup?
